Summary description

Oil painting on canvas, An Unknown Gentleman, British (English) School, 19th century. A half-length portrait of a man, turned slightly to the left, looking at the viewer, with brown hair brushed forward, long sideburns, wearing a black coat and a white cravat. A red curtain hangs behind him in the background.

Provenance

Armstrong collection; transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
