A pair of rare South American silver-gilt filigree peacock incense burners (sahumadoes), Ayacucho, Peru, first half nineteenth century. The finely worked models hinged at the waist. The stands with filigree gallery and panel supports, minor lead soldered repairs (with a later D and J Wellby wood case).
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
