An Indian silk mat-rest for a hookah. The red silk has gold and silver thread interwoven, which fringes out around the edges. Gold sequins and green glass beads have been arranged to produce a floral effect in the centre of the mat and around the border. Purchased in 1986 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund from Francis Curzon, 3rd Viscount Scarsdale (1924-2000). Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.
